Keeping children from being unsupervised, off the streets, and out of trouble. The YMCA is the largest licensed school age childcare program in Midland that provides financial assistance and also meets requirements to accept Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) placements for afterschool childcare services. Our afterschool program is maxed out with over 430 enrolled and we are turning away families who desperately need afterschool care.
These families are not able to afford other afterschool childcare options in the Midland community. The Y is committed to ensuring the safety of our youth and providing the support needed for working families. In January 2023, the Y started a reimbursement program for afterschool services at other providers to ensure children are not left at home or unsupervised. Once a spot becomes available at the Y, children are enrolled in our program, and YMCA scholarship and/or Texas Workforce funding will begin.
A single mother wrote, “My husband was the main provider in our home when he passed of Covid in December 2021. We have had to figure our whole life and start from the beginning. We were married 18 years and never thought I would be a single mom. I am trying to find my new normal in the workforce, but I need any help I can get. Thank you and God Bless the YMCA.”
