Adult Swim Lessons

Greater Waco YMCA & LaVega ISD with The Cooper Foundation

After the Cooper Foundation of Waco awarded a grant to provide the Safety Around Water (SAW) program to over 100 kids from La Vega ISD, Waco Rowing and La Vega ISD Superintendent, Dr. Shields came back to the YMCA with a problem – many of the parents or guardians said they themselves didn’t know how to swim, and sometimes it was their older children as well. Sadly enough, a child with water safety skills is still less impactful if the parents/guardians supervising are not equipped with those same skills. These adults would be unable to help their child who found themselves in distress while around water, so they asked if the YMCA would consider providing an Adult SAW Program. The Cooper Foundation recognized the value in this program and awarded the Greater Waco YMCA $15,000 to provide the first Adult SAW program so that the whole family could enjoy water activities safely! This new program will continue to be provided to our communities!
